I am thinking of moving to CR. Dont know the country very well besides the internet sites I have visited. Can you tell me more about it? Is it safe? Prices of houses (rental)

Reading your posts looks like there are enough restaurants? Are cars expensive?

Any tips are welcome. What are the dos and dont's

Thanks!

Negative. I did live there. Do your search though. I don't feel like discussing this much anymore, and I'm probably not alone in this.

clint, if youre looking for a crime free place, i believe American lives in the only crime free town in the world, its somewhere in florida, and its not very big but I hear its amazing....

Im Costa Rican so Id be a little biased but Im sure someone else will give their opinions...

Good luck if you decide to come down here...

...Yes, that's right. I've found this little crime-free pocket to live in. It's about eight square miles. Outside of it, you have to take your chances.

very helpfull guys..I currently live on one of the most criminal islands in the caribbean..So I think I know what it is..

I should have known better asking here..

Clint,

CR is a great place to live. Housing is relatively inexpensive, cars are VERY expensive (due to taxes, food is good, people are very friendly (for the most part). Seriously, if you do a search here, you will find a lot more information, too. Take care.

Clint, if you don't mind the question, can you tell me why exactly do you want to move to Costa Rica? Also in what carribean island are you currently living now?

The most important thing for answering your question is why do you want to move here

Thanks Jake, I did some reading and see that american is a big cry baby.

wolfie, might be moving for a job there. Nothing is sure yet though..

Just wanted to know some general information. I found some sites that explain all, and looks like it is not much different there.

Thanks anyway

LMAO...So despite the fact that I'm some crybaby with an axe to grind, it looks like you've found numerous sites that concur with what I've been saying. Thank you Johnny Cochrane!

Ok that sounds like a valid reason, if you have an offer it makes sense to move, finding a job its not the easiest thing these days anywhere and depending on what your job is about it might be difficult to get a work permit

there are some real morons in here that pretend to move to United States version 2 or something and then they are shocked...poor dummies

clint...

if you're looking to move to cr and also have a job in here. consider the following..

if you pretend to have weekends off...
expect a maximum salary of $750 that means,
you have to be with an universitary career, and also speak fluent spanish., with $750 for a living, if you pretend to have a car, then you have to save almost 1 year and a half, without drinking and partying, if your plan it's to gain one without any financial institute.

Also consider that each beer it's almost $1 at the normal bars... milk it's almost $1/2, then
monthly food average it's almost $150,

$750 - $150 = $600.
THe cheapest place you can find in the south area of the capital it will cost you around $300,

$600 - $300 = $300
1 beer x nigth = $300 - 30 = $270.
if you don't have a car, consider the bus,
way in and way back. it's almost, $1/2 = $270-30 = $240, now, i think probably you'll hire a maid, probably for a couple of hours, let's say the cheapest one for $50 = $240-$50 = $190,
then, i'm sure while you're working you'll going out for lunch.. that's $2,5 x day, = $75,
$190-$75 = $115... let's say you only party once a month to the beach... a tico cheap party will be -($50 -$115)

$65. That's Live in CR.

- Be a Narco.
- Be a Politician.

Well im gonna have to agree with alomost everybody here, do your search, but i can tell you that if you want to work here, is going to be hard getting your papers, i have friends that are still trying to get their papers and is taking them forever, faster option is marring somebody, but you dont want to do that, because CR is a great place to party and have fun, people are nice and trust me is not like you cant walk on the streets after 8pm, is like everywhere it has its goods and bads, but is really nice and the beaches are great. Have fun and good luck.

I've been here going on 5 yrs...I live better here than I did in the states..I work less, have a life and dont worry about half as much as i did back home...Highly recommend it but Latin America isnt for everyone...be prepared to get annoyed about some of the things we take for granted back in the states
